There's nothing quite like the deep rumble of a scooped bass bin—especially when it's been lovingly brought back to life. Recently, we took on a proper audio restoration adventure, and we're buzzing to share it with you!
It all started with a listing we couldn't resist: a pair of scooped bass bins in desperate need of TLC. We hit the road from Cullompton to Exmouth, scoops in mind and excitement in our bones. When we arrived, it was clear these beasts had seen better days. Shabby, scuffed, and full of character (to put it kindly), they needed more than just a dust-off.
Back at base, the real work began. We started by filling all the holes and battered areas with wood filler. Once cured, everything got a thorough sanding to smooth out the surfaces and prep for paint. The transformation began the moment we cracked open a fresh tin of tough, black speaker paint. Two coats later and they were already looking brand new! .
With the cabinets looking sharp, we swapped out the worn-out handles for some brand new chrome ones—sleek, strong, and ready for action. We also added fresh corner protectors to keep them safe on the move. .
All the original metal hardware—the hefty grab handles and the back plates for the SpeakOn connectors—were treated to a fresh coat of spray paint. The result? A clean, cohesive finish that brought the whole look together. .
The original speaker drivers were sadly blown, so we invested in a pair of Fane 600w bass drivers to restore the low-end thunder. The drivers arrived in no time, but the crossovers... not so much. A few days' delay felt like forever when you're itching to hear some bass! .
Eventually, the crossovers landed, and we got straight to soldering. We mounted the crossovers securely inside the cabinets, wired them up to the new drivers, and sealed everything in with a set of shiny new speaker grills. .
Now standing proud in our workshop, these once-forgotten scoops are fully revived and raring to go. All we need now is the perfect venue to put them to the test. We can't wait to feel that low-end power shaking the dancefloor once again! .
Stay tuned—we'll be sharing videos of the first test run very soon. 👀.
